Crate Training in 7 Days: A No-Stress Method

Crate training works best when the crate becomes your dog’s idea of a good place to be, not a punishment or a cage. Rushing this process is the single most common reason it backfires.

Start by feeding meals near, then inside, the open crate. Add short, calm periods with the door closed while you’re in the room, gradually extending the time and stepping further away. By the end of the week, most dogs can handle short absences without distress, provided you haven’t skipped steps out of impatience.

If your dog is still panicking at day seven, that’s a sign to slow down, not push through — some dogs genuinely need two or three weeks, and that’s completely normal.
